Young Rugby Players from the USA Participate in Drowning prevention workshops in Monaco

Monaco, May 10, 2019 - At the suggestion of HSH Princess Charlene, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation organized drowning prevention workshops for the members of the USA (USA West Rugby), South Africa and Mauritius teams who will be participating in the 2019 St. Devote Rugby Tournament.

The workshops, which took place at the Louis II Stadium in Monaco with the support and participation of Pierre Frolla – four-time world record holder in free diving and Ambassador of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation – and the Monaco Red Cross, gave the children the opportunity to learn about water safety and first aid techniques.

This operation is part of the South Africa – Monaco Rugby Exchange whose purpose is to promote exchange between rugby players from the two countries who have joined this year, the Americans and Mauritians.

Some top players from Toulon came to support this operation. The South African rugby union player Mr. Marcel van der Merwe, the South African World Champion Mr. JP Pietersen, the New Zealander world champion Mr. Julian Savea and his compatriot Mr. Liam Justin Messam, and the Welsh international rugby union player Mr. Rhys Webb exchanged views with the young rugby players.

USA West Rugby is an U12 Invitational 7s rugby team based in Western USA, and consists of boys and girls. During Rugby Colorado’s annual tournament schedule, U12 player’s are scouted and given the opportunity to be considered for selection for the invitational team.
The current coaching and management team consists of former South African Springbok International rugby player - Andre Snyman, Highlands Ranch Youth Rugby Director - Chris Wilson and former Brigham Young University rugby player and avid rugby parent - Dr Andy Ashby.
