Princess Charlene Rally - 01.04.2016

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace – declared by the UN General Assembly and celebrated around the world on April 6 - was celebrated in the Principality a few days in advance.

In the presence of TT.SS.HH. Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene, 436 students from the 7th grade classes from three schools in Monaco (Collège Charles III, Collège FANB and Lycée Technique et Hotelier – SEGPA) participated in the 3rd Princess Charlene Rally.

The event was organised by Monaco’s Department of Education, Youth and Sport in collaboration with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, Peace and Sport and the Parent-Teacher Association of Monaco.  The Rally was comprised of a timed running race and three workshops – a sports competition (1,200 metres on a rowing machine), a teamwork-based event (using stretchers to bring victims to safety at the Aquatic Rescue Center of Monaco) and lastly an intellectual challenge (multiple choice test questions).

The freediving quadruple world record holder, Pierre Frolla, Ambassador to the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and Peace & Sport, hosted a conference where teenagers could exchange with representatives of both institutions.

A drawing workshop allowed each team to express its perception of this day through an artistic creation.

The Princess Charlene Rally exemplifies this by allowing children to acquaint themselves with the values of sport:  teamwork, determination, respect and cooperation.   In order to commemorate the occasion, the event concluded with a symbolic “White Card” souvenir picture.
