Saint Devote Rugby Tournament - 11.04.2015

In collaboration with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the Monegasque Rugby Federation organised the 5th Saint Devote Tournament on Saturday 11 April 2015 at the Louis II Stadium in Monaco.

The purpose of this tournament is to highlight the values of rugby, dear to the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, beyond its physical aspects. These meetings illustrate team spirit and the notions of generosity, sharing, solidarity, respect and fair play which help children to accept themselves as they are in order to better integrate into society.

This year, the U12-category tournament will bring together international teams from Abu Dhabi, South Africa, Spain (Barcelona), France (Rugby Club Toulon, Lucciana), Italy (Imperia, Mirano and Pro Recco), Switzerland (Gland), Tunisia and Monaco.  As this year was named the “Year of Russia” in Monaco, a Russian team will also participate in the Tournament.

Twelve U12 teams from nine countries participated in the competition: Abu Dhabi, France, Italy, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia and Monaco.

The Tunisian team won the tournament while Lucciana took away the Saint Devote Trophy.  The South African team invited as a special guest to participate in the “South Africa – Monaco Rugby Exchange”, one of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation’s flagship projects in its “Sport & Education” programme, won the Bowl.

For the first time a “Tots Rugby” Session for 3 to 5 year olds was organised initiating the children to the sport.

In parallel, educational workshops and specially designed courses were made available for disabled young people for an entertaining introduction to rugby.
