Sainte Devote Rugby Challenge - 01.02.2014

In collaboration with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the Fédération Monégasque de Rugby organized the 4th edition of the “Sainte-Dévote Challenge” as part of the festivities in honour of the Patron Saint of the Principality. This event took place on Saturday 1st February 2014 at the Louis II Stadium in Monaco.

H.S.H. Princess Charlene spoke to the children by sharing their enthusiasm and awarded the cup to the winner of the tournament, the team from Lucciana.

Players from RC Toulon’s ‘première’ team were present, in particular Argentinian  Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Englishman Andrew Sheridan, New Zealander Ali Williams as well as Frenchman Mathieu Bonello, to encourage the budding players.

The famous Brennus Shield, awarded to the Champions de France, as well as the European Cup have been displayed, exceptionally this day.

The aim of this tournament is to develop the values of rugby beyond the sporting aspect, a value the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation shares.

The Challenge, between Monaco and Lucciana, allowed the throw Trophy between young Monegasque and Corsican rugby players and was won by the team of Lucciana. Fairplay Cup was awarded to the team of Barcelona.
