With the support of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) organised from September 22nd through October 4th, 2014, in Zanzibar, Tanzania, two weeks of intensive lifesaving training to help tackle the drowning epidemic in Africa. The Africa continent has one of the highest drowning rates in the world.
The course “Future Leaders in Lifesaving” gathered 30 trainees from countries across Africa including Botswana, Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mozambique, Senegal, Sudan, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda learned from six RNLI expert trainers how to run lifesaving services in their home countries.
This one-of-a-kind program provided the participants the skills needed so that they can return to their respective countries and be able to teach others.
