Water Safety

Tanzanie - Zanzibar 2014

With the support of the Foundation Princesse Charlene of Monaco and thanks to the cooperation of the local Board of Education, a water safety programme is currently being taught in 65 local schools.

More than 45,000 children will learn during the school year 2014, basic water safety and rescue skills.

Sadly, Zanzibar is all too familiar with drowning deaths. Over the past few years several ferry accidents have taken place off the northern coast killing and injuring hundreds.

The African continent has one of the highest drowning rates in the world which is why the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation has resolved to tackle this problem in such a susceptible area.
