Even before he graduated to racing cars, Jenson was breaking records. In karting he became the youngest driver ever to win the European Super A Championship, aged 17. The following year he moved to cars and won the British Formula Ford Championship, followed by the coveted McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award.

He finished third in his first year of the British Formula 3 Championship in 1999, and just a few months later he notched up another memorable first, becoming the youngest British driver ever to start an F1 race, going on to finish an incredible 8th overall in the Championship standings.
Nine years after first competing in the Formula One Championship, driving for Brawn GP Jenson clinched the World Title in dramatic style. Winning six of the first seven races, he established a considerable championship lead early on, and wrapped up the title with a race to spare.
The following year Jenson joined the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team with immediate success, winning two of the first four rounds. Consistent race performances kept Jenson in contention for the title until the penultimate round of the season.

Another year of consistent race results, including three wins and a further nine podium finishes saw Jenson finish 2nd in the 2011 Championship. Arguably one of the most remarkable drives ever witnessed and a highlight of the season for Jenson came at the Canadian Grand Prix. Jenson fought his way through the field from last in extremely changeable and tricky conditions to take a victory that will go down in history.

Jenson got the 2012 season off to the best possible start, taking victory in an exciting Australian Grand Prix. He followed up with podiums in China, Germany and Italy, a victory in Belgium and ended the year on a high, winning the final race of the season in Brazil.

It is such an honour to be asked to become an Ambassador of such a fantastic association. When you see the wonderful work that the Foundation is and will be doing it is inspiring.  Princess Charlene’s passion for what she is doing is moving and I am truly excited by the prospect of helping children in disadvantaged situations learn about the values that sport can bring to their lives today and in the future.
