Learn to Swim & Water Safety

New York - Swim Strong Foundation, Learn to Swim/Water Safety - 2018-2022

Swim Strong Foundation provides water safety and lear-to-swim programs to children and families in the New York City area, including those who are unable to afford payment due to cultural or economic barriers.

Students learn about water safety as it relates to different environments (pool, beach, rivers, lakes, etc.).  They learn to move with confidence in the water; learn floating and streamlining skills on stomach and back, learn proper breathing and swimming skills. Students who are able to swim 50 yards (via a demonstrated swim test) are deemed to have passed the basic skill level.

Since its inception, Swim Strong has served 8,750 students and offered 2,575 scholarships totaling $797,940 worth of free swim lessons for children whose families otherwise would not be able to afford swim classes. Classes are taught by volunteer instructors who have a passion for teaching swimming skills.

Swim Strong reopened its swim classes as of May 2022 (having been closed due to the pandemic for 27 months).  The continued support of PCMF USA allowed to provide free swim lessons to children in need.
8 received the intro program (30 minutes) and 10 received the Learn to Swim Program (60 minutes).
