It is with profound sadness that the Board of Directors of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation USA announces the passing of our founding board member, Wallis Annenberg. She died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles at the age of 86, following a brave battle with lung cancer.
From the Foundation’s earliest days, Wallis was a steadfast supporter of Princess Charlene’s mission. She joined the U.S. board at its inception in 2016 and graciously hosted the launch of our national chapter at the Annenberg Community Beach House. Her dedication played a vital role in shaping our early work in drowning prevention and water safety education for children.
As president and chair of the Annenberg Foundation from 2009 to 2025, Wallis directed over $1.5 billion in philanthropic giving, championing the arts, education, animal welfare, environmental protection, healthcare, and civic life—especially in Los Angeles and across Southern California.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Wallis’s family, particularly her children—Lauren Bon, Gregory Annenberg Weingarten, and Charles Annenberg Weingarten—and her grandchildren. Her generosity, vision, and compassion leave a lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed.
